Tip of the Month
Cockpit Cover
Whether you travel with your kayak or store it in a shed it is great to have a fitted cockpit cover. This will keep the rain from filling up your car-topped boat plus keep spiders and slugs from crawling in while stored in your shed. We still have no advice for keeping rodents out. Our friend found her cockpit filled with acorns one spring after the squirrels had used it as a pantry all winter.Tip Archive

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:redwood national forestHum Boats Woodley island EurekaNorth Coast AdventuresHSU Center Activities
To provide fun, eco-friendly, and safe, on-water instruction, interpretive tours, outdoor education, and environmental awareness in kayaks to persons of all abilities along the beautiful redwood coast of Northern California.
OUR LOCATION: Humboldt Kayak Humboats Hum Boats
We are based in Orick, California, the southern gateway to Redwood National and State Parks, northern gateway to Humboldt Lagoons State Park and the home of the world’s tallest trees. Orick is located 50 minutes north of Eureka and 45 minutes south of Crescent City on the Northern California Coast. The town was named for the native Yurok word for the sound the frogs make. In fact, at night in the spring the frogs sing so loud we have to close the windows to hear each other! Frogs and salamanders live and play on the water and so do we. In fact, that’s why our logo is a salamander.

WHY GO KAYAKING ? Redwood Coast kayak North Coast kayak adventures
Kayaking is a wonderful sport in so many ways because it allows us to dance on water even if we aren’t even able to walk on land! You can use all your muscle groups without the threat of high-impact activity. You can experience nature and wildlife closer than you can on land. You can take it as easy or aerobic and adrenaline-filled as you choose. You can even camp out of or fish from your kayak! And—as Kayak Zak says, “More fun is more good!”
